How to Make the Absinthe Frappé (& The Strange Story Behind It)

Today we dive into a very powerful mix, called the “ Absinthe Frappé “

Now it is quite simple to do and does not have that many ingredients, but it surely is strong on the alcohol ! On the other hand it is a very cool refreshment.

Absinthe Frappé

The history behind this cocktail

Bartender by the name of Cayetano Ferrer invented this cocktail in 1874 in a place that became known as the Old Absinthe House.

Funny enough the United States later in 1912 banned the sale of absinthe because of claims that It caused health problems and hallucinations ( Yeah, odd right ? took them 100 years to lift that ban )

Not sure if we forgive them for it … But let’s get in there and show you how to do it !

Ingredients

30 ml ( 1 oz ) Absinthe
15 ml ( 0.5 oz ) Simple Syrup
60 ml ( 2 oz ) Water

Crushed Ice

Garnish : Lemon Slices on a cocktail pick

How to do it

  1. Fill up the blossoming cobbler shaker with Ice
  2. Pour in the Absinthe, simple syrup & water using the viny double jigger for measurement.
  3. Shake well
  4. Add crushed ice into the frappe chino glass
  5. Strain the cocktail into the glass
  6. Garnish using Lemon slices on a cocktail stick
Şerefe !

Shaking vs Stirring Tip : There’s a general rule of thumb here: If a cocktail contains any opaque or cloudy ingredients such as fruit juices, eggs or cream it should be shaken vigorously. Because it takes a lot of effort to integrate these ingredients into the mix.

Oppositely if the cocktail consists entirely of transparent ingredients such as spirits, vermouth, sweeteners, bitters etc… Then it should be stirred
