City Rickey Cocktail: A Bright, Bubbly Party Drink That’s Effortlessly Cool

Looking for a cocktail that’s fun, fizzy, and totally party-ready?

Meet the City Rickey: a cranberry-forward gin drink that’s as easy to make as it is to love.

With its bold red color and refreshing sparkle, this cocktail was made to impress guests or just treat yourself. Let’s dive into why it deserves a spot in your rotation.

" City Rickey "

Where Did the City Rickey Come From?

While it’s not as famous as its cousin, the Gin Rickey, the City Rickey is a modern spin that comes straight from the mind of legendary bartender Dale DeGroff.

This cocktail leans into cranberry juice and Triple Sec for a sweeter, fruitier profile — balanced beautifully by lemon juice and a refreshing splash of sparkling water. It’s the kind of drink you can build right in the glass, making it a go-to for parties, quick pours, or relaxed afternoons.

It’s proof that a cocktail doesn’t need complexity to shine, just the right mix of flavors and a touch of style.

Here is
how you can do it yourself
Ingredients

45 ml ( 1.5 oz ) Gin
30 ml ( 1 oz ) Triple Sec
60 ml ( 2 oz ) Cranberry Juice
60 ml ( 2 oz ) Sparkling Water
Half Lemon Squeezed

Garnish : Dried Cranberries on a Cocktail Pick

How to do it
  1. Fill up the Cocktail Glass with ice cubes
  2. Pour in the Gin, Triple Sec, Cranberry Juice & Sparkling Water using a Jigger for precision
  3. Squeeze half a lemon inside using a Lemon squeezer
  4. Garnish with Dried Cranberries on a Cocktail Pick
  5. Insert your favorite red matching straw

Shake or Build? It’s Your Call.

Even though the City Rickey includes both cranberry and lemon juice, it’s perfectly fine to skip the shaker and build it right in the glass.

Want a smoother texture and more dilution? Give it a quick shake before pouring.

Prefer a crisp, layered vibe? Stir it gently with ice instead.

Try both and let your mood (or guest list) decide.
