The Detropolitan Cocktail – A Cosmopolitan Twist with Raspberry Liqueur
Cranberry lovers, meet your new obsession: the Detropolitan.
This bold, red-hued cocktail is a fun twist on the Cosmopolitan, adding raspberry liqueur for a sweeter, richer vibe.
It’s the kind of drink that’s just as perfect for a girls’ night in as it is for a festive dinner party.
Let’s dive into why the Detropolitan deserves a spot in your shaker.
" Detropolitan "
Where did this cocktail come from?
It’s a fresh spin on the legendary Cosmopolitan – a cocktail that first appeared in Pioneers of Mixing at Elite Bars 1903–1933, published in 1934.
The Cosmo is traditionally made with vodka, cranberry juice, Triple Sec, and lemon juice. The Detropolitan sticks to those basics but adds a splash of raspberry liqueur for added depth and sweetness. The result? A fruity, vibrant cocktail with a flavor profile that’s both familiar and just different enough to get your attention.
Whether you’re a Cosmopolitan loyalist or just in the mood for something red, crisp, and party-ready, the Detropolitan is an easy upgrade.
Here's how you can mix it yourself
Ingredients
50 ml ( 1.6 oz ) Vodka
25 ml ( 0.8 oz ) Triple Sec
10 ml ( 0.3 oz ) Raspberry Liqueur
75 ml ( 2.5 oz ) Cranberry Juice
Half Lemon Squeezed
Garnish : Orange Peel Twist
How to do it
- Add ice cubes to the Shaker
- Pour the Vodka, Triple Sec, Raspberry Liqueur & Cranberry Juice into the shaker, using a Jigger for precision.
- Squeeze half a lemon inside, using a Lemon Squeezer
- Strain the cocktail into the Cocktail Glass using a Hawthorne Strainer
- Garnish with an Orange Peel Twist
Kippis !
Should You Pre-Chill Your Cocktail Glass?
Absolutely! A chilled glass elevates the experience, especially for vodka-based cocktails like the Detropolitan. The cold rim adds that first refreshing touch, and it keeps the drink crisp longer.
Pop your glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or swirl some ice water in it while mixing.
It’s a small step that makes a big difference & trust us, your lips will notice!
