The Green Vesper Cocktail: A Bold Absinthe Twist on Bond’s Iconic Drink
Looking for a bold, boozy martini with a twist? Meet the Green Vesper, a fierce riff on James Bond’s iconic cocktail.
This version swaps out Lillet for absinthe, taking the flavor (and ABV) up a notch. Stir it up and let the intensity speak for itself.
" Green Vesper "
History behind this cocktail
The Green Vesper is a modern take on the classic Vesper Martini, the drink immortalized by James Bond in Casino Royale. Originally crafted by Ian Fleming in his 1953 novel, the Vesper combined Gordon’s gin, vodka, and Kina Lillet (a now-defunct, bitter aperitif).
This updated version swaps Kina Lillet for absinthe, giving the drink a sharper, herbal edge and, depending on the absinthe used, a vivid green hue.
While not officially part of the Bond canon, the Green Vesper is an adventurous spin for those who like their martinis intense and unconventional.
If you want that signature green tint, make sure to use green absinthe. Ours was clear, but the flavor held strong either way.

How Long Should You Stir a Vesper?
Since this cocktail is all spirits, it’s best stirred not shaken.
Stir gently for 10–15 seconds if you like it strong, or up to 30 seconds if you prefer it more diluted.
Stirring also keeps the absinthe flavor smooth rather than punchy.
Bonus tip: use extra-cold glassware to help mellow the high ABV.
