How to Make the Tequila Sunrise Cocktail
The Tequila Sunrise is one of our favorite cocktails most definitely. It is such an easy and fun mix to do.
It’s one of the few cocktails that were named after their shape or look.
That color and look in the glass after you pour in the ingredients which are ( White Tequila, Orange Juice & Grenadine ) resembles an actual sunrise.

History behind this cocktail
If you back to the 1930s the original blend of this delicious cocktail was composed of tequila, creme de cassis, lemon juice & sparkling water.
It was served mainly at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel where it was created by a bartender named Gene Sulit.
The version that we’ll be doing is the most recent and popular one nowadays which was created by Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice in the early 1970s
Normally this drink is built and served directly inside a Collins or Stemmed Glass by adding the three main ingredients on top of ice without stirring to keep that beautiful sunrise look.
Our version of the cocktail :
We didn’t change much when it comes to the ingredients, we stuck to them but we went a little bit extra and increased the volume of the grenadine, as well as reduced the volume of orange juice slightly, then also gave it a stir at the end after achieving the sunrise look ( this is personal preference as we wanted to taste it like such, but you should feel free to cut back a little on the grenadine and serve the drink un-stirred )
Preparation
Ingredients
45 ml ( 1.5 oz. ) White Tequila
60 ml ( 2 oz ) Orange Juice
20 ml ( 0.66 oz ) Grenadine
Garnish : Umbrella Cocktail Pick
How to do it
- Add ice to The Lovely Flamingo glass
- Pour into the glass : the white tequila & orange juice.
- Slowly add in the grenadine
- Garnish with an umbrella cocktail pick & insert a straw
- ( Optional : Give it a little stir to see the magic of the sunrise)
