The Southside Cocktail Recipe ( History & Tutorial included )

If you’re a gin lover, you’re gonna enjoy this classic cocktail made out of ( Gin, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup & Muddle Mint Leaves )

" Southside "

History of this Cocktail

The Southside date back to the early 1900s when it first appeared in the recipe book of Huge Enslinn ” Recipes for Mixed Drinks “

It was proposed that it gets it’s name from either the South Side city of Chicago, Illinois or from the Southside Sportsmen’s Club on Long Island.

Here's what you need to make it yourself
Coupe Glass for drinking Martini Champagne and cocktails
Ingredients

60 ml ( 2 oz ) Gin
22.5 ml ( 0.75 oz ) Simple Syrup
3-4 Mint Leaves
Half Lemon Squeezed

Steps to do it
  1. Drop 3-4 mint leaves into the Blossoming Cobbler & Muddle them gently using the Thin Mid Muddler
  2. Add in the Gin, Simple Syrup & Half Lemon Squeezed using the Diamond Spouted Single Jigger & The Lemon Destroyer
  3. Pour ice into the shaker using the Stainless Steel ice Scoop
  4. Shake Well
  5. Fine Strain the mix using the Classic fine Mesh Strainer into the Classic Coupe Glass
  6. Garnish with a Lemon Wheel on a Cocktail Pick
Cheerio !
When Muddling Mint

Do not go hard on them instead just twist 3-4 times gently with your muddler as to not unwantedly extract their bitterness into the drink, as this could taste really bad and ruin the drink.

Also add in the lemon juice and or the sugar / simple syrup / sweetener and muddle the mint while it is mixed inside them ( this helps extract the mint’s oil and gets it absorbed into the mix )

The way we did the southside is we muddled the mint dry with no mixed substance but this is not the perfect way to do it, we were just playing around as usual and trying different tastes and effects.

We advice that you add the lemon juice & simple syrup on top of the mint before muddling.

What's your preferred way for muddling mint ?
