How to Make a Grateful Dead Cocktail: A Bold Twist on the Long Island
The Grateful Dead cocktail is loud, unapologetic, and ready to party.
It’s the Long Island’s wilder cousin, swapping cola for raspberry liqueur and cranking up the flavor and strength.
If you’re into fruity cocktails that pack a punch, this one’s for you. Let’s mix it up!

What Is a Grateful Dead Cocktail?
You may not have heard of the Grateful Dead cocktail, but it’s a bar favorite that flies just under the radar, especially if you’re already a fan of Long Island Iced Tea.
Both drinks mix vodka, tequila, white rum, and triple sec. But instead of the Long Island’s cola finish, the Grateful Dead goes rogue with raspberry liqueur, giving it a sweet, fruity edge and an even higher alcohol content.
This cocktail likely earned its name thanks to its strength and color. After one too many, you might feel like part of the band.
.It’s a fun and flavorful option for parties, Halloween, or anytime you want something strong with a splash of rebellious flair. At Skol, we’ve opted to leave out the gin and let the raspberry liqueur shine.

Why Stirring Matters in a Spirit-Only Mix
For cocktails made entirely of spirits (no juice, egg, or dairy), stirring helps blend the alcohols smoothly without adding air or over-diluting the mix.
The Grateful Dead is all booze, so stir gently if you like it strong, or longer if you want to tame the bite.
Either way, use a bar spoon and stir over ice for 15 to 30 seconds depending on your taste.
Cheers to finding your perfect strength!
