Vodka Stinger Cocktail – The Bold Minty Duo You Didn’t Know You Needed

The Vodka Stinger is proof that less really can be more. Just two ingredients (vodka and mint liqueur) combine to deliver a smooth, cool cocktail with just the right kick.

It’s simple, bold, and surprisingly satisfying. Stick around to see how to make it and where this unexpected classic came from.

" Vodka Stinger "

How old is this recipe ?

The Vodka Stinger is a crisp twist on an older classic. While the original Stinger was made with brandy and crème de menthe (dating back to the 1890s), the vodka variation likely emerged later as clear spirits became more fashionable.

The name and minty profile connect it to the cocktail The Judge, featured in William Schmidt’s 1892 bartending book. Though originally served more as a digestif than a “proper cocktail,” the Vodka Stinger holds its ground as a minimalist yet flavorful option for fans of clean spirits and bold flavors.

Today, it’s a sleek after-dinner sip or a quick fix for minty refreshment—no fancy garnishes required.

Should You Pre-Chill the Glass for a Vodka Stinger?

Absolutely. Pre-chilling your glass gives this sharp, spirit-forward drink a smoother mouthfeel and keeps it ice-cold longer, exactly what a Vodka Stinger needs.

We often skip it for photo clarity, but at home?

Toss that coupe in the freezer while you mix. The crisp rim + minty chill = next-level experience.
