Time to Learn all about the Exotic Bahama Mama Cocktail

This exotic flavory cocktail runs in the family of “ vacation drinks “ along with cocktails like the Piña colada.  Thinking of going on a vacation ? to the Bahamas perhaps ?  Well now you know what to order !

The Bahama Mama !

Origins of the Cocktail

It’s origins however are not so well known, but as we heard it dates back to the early 1950s. The most popular bartender that was associated with this cocktail is Oswald “ Slade “ Greenslade who is a Bahamian guy that worked at the Nassau Beach Hotel on Cable Beach from 1961 to 1993 where he mentioned that he invented this concoction which apparently was named after a local singer that he knew. But the one he’s known for is the coffee-induced version, however the one we are doing is the fruity rum version.

Here's what we used to make it

Ingredients

22.5 ml ( 0.75 oz)  White Rum
22.5 ml ( 0.75 oz)  Gold Rum
22.5 ml ( 0.75 oz)  Dark Rum
15 ml  ( 0.5 oz )  Coconut Liquor
60 ml ( 2 oz )  Orange Juice
90 ml ( 3 oz )  Pineapple Juice
7.5 ml ( 0.25 oz ) Grenadine

Garnish: Orange Wheel & Dried Cranberry on a cocktail pick

How to do it

  1. Fill up the Beauty Shaker with Ice Cubes of your choice
  2. Pour into the shaker : The White Rum, Gold Rum, Dark Rum, Coconut Liquor, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice & Grenadine
  3. Shake the mix well
  4. Strain it using the The Sköl Hawthorne Strainer into the Possessed Ancient Glass
  5. Finish by garnishing with an orange wheel & a dried cranberry on a cocktail pick.
Salud !

Shaking Tip : Don’t shake in an up and down or vertical fashion. Instead hold the shaker in a parallel position to the floor and while grasping it securely move it forward so that you can feel and hear the contents inside it leaving the side that’s closest to your body and hit the opposite side and as soon as they do snap your wrists back toward your body to get them back towards you.
